How to Set Up an iPad Photo Booth for Your Event (No Rental Needed)
The short answer
You can run a Korean-style 4-cut photo booth with a tablet you already own: install the MY4CUT app, choose or design a frame, put the tablet on a stand, and let guests tap to shoot. Results can be shared by QR code, and printing is optional with a compatible photo printer.
What do I need to run an iPad photo booth?
The core setup is small: a tablet (an iPad is the easiest), a stand or tripod mount, decent light, and the MY4CUT app. Guests tap the screen, the app counts down, takes four shots, and places them in the frame you picked.
- A tablet: iPad or another modern tablet with a front camera.
- A stand at about face height so groups of two to four people fit in the shot.
- Soft light from the front. Window light or a small lamp beats an overhead light.
- The MY4CUT app, plus a frame that matches your event (you can design one for free).
- Optional: a photo printer if you want instant paper strips. See the printer guide for the supported setup.
How do I set it up step by step?
Plan about 15 minutes the first time, and less once you've done it.
- 1. Install the app and sign in on the tablet you'll leave at the event.
- 2. Pick a frame, or make your own in the frame maker with your event name and colors.
- 3. Place the tablet on the stand in portrait or landscape and check that faces are centered.
- 4. Take two or three test strips. Adjust the light and the distance from the stand.
- 5. Turn on the sharing option you want, such as QR codes so guests can save photos to their own phones.
- 6. Put a small sign next to the stand: 'Tap to start'.
Do I need to rent a photo booth?
Not for this style of booth. A rental company brings a cabinet, a printer, and an attendant, which is useful for a large formal event. If you mainly want fun four-cut strips and easy sharing, a tablet and an app cover it at a fraction of the effort.
MY4CUT's own mini booth hardware is sold and rented only in Korea, so outside Korea the practical route is the app on a tablet you already have. The app and the web camera at /shoot work without special hardware.
Can guests get their photos without a printer?
Yes. The most common setup for parties is no printer at all: guests scan a QR code and save the strip to their phone. If you do want prints, a compatible photo printer is connected separately, and the printer guide explains the supported models and common problems.
